I recently got the chance to try out some American Heritage Chocolate so you know my answer to partnering with them was YES! Of course, haha! The mildly spicy and slightly sweet recipe is flavored with a blend of 11 spices and ingredients available during the 18th century that range from the heat of chili peppers, to the warmth of vanilla, to the freshness of orange peel.
Did you know that in the 18th century chocolate was enjoyed as a beverage? It wasn’t until the mid 1880s that chocolate became “candy” as we know it. These American Heritage Chocolate Bites give you a sampling to be enjoyed grated and served as a beverage or just popped in your mouth, which is really the best way to enjoy any chocolate…especially this one!
There individual American Heritage Chocolate Sticks make perfect stirrers for your morning coffee! If you prefer, it can be grated and added to water for a tasty sample of this authentic 18th century chocolate. I chose to skip my coffee creamer and stir my morning cup of joe with this stick and the flavor was AMAZING!! I had fun sitting and imagining that this is how my distant grandparents enjoyed their morning coffee. (Hey, don’t judge me! I’m somewhat obsessed with the past and figuring out what life was like for my ancestors.)
Perhaps one of the best ways to enjoy this authentic recipe is the American Heritage Grated Chocolate. Taste the sweeter side of the revolution! This grated chocolate is delicious as a beverage and a great substitute for semi-sweet chocolate in a wide variety of recipes.
I think the American Heritage Chocolate Block was by far my favorite item in my package. Perfect for baking! American Heritage is 63% cacao and a perfect substitution for the semi-sweet chocolate that your favorite recipe calls for. I decided to use the chocolate blocks to make some peanut butter cups and the results were awesome! Find the recipe below, try it out, and let me know what you think!
American Heritage Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Recipe:
- 1 six ounce package of American Heritage Chocolate Block
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 teaspoon softened butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Chop one 3 ounce block of chocolate into large size chunks. You don’t need to worry about getting it too small, it will all melt down just the same.
Using a heat-safe glass bowl and small saucepan filled with water, melt the chocolate down using the double boiler method. Once completely melted your chocolate will be smooth and glossy.
Place baking 4 paper baking cups into a large muffin mold, and place a small layer of chocolate in each cup. Freeze about 20 minutes or until solid.
In a small bowl, beat together powdered sugar, peanut butter, butter and vanilla extract until the mixture is completely mixed.
Divide the mixture into 4 pieces and form them into peanut butter patties. Be sure to leave a little room on the edge so the chocolate on top can seal the whole thing together.
Chop and melt the remaining chocolate block as you did before, and top your peanut butter cups off. Freeze another 20 minutes or until solid and serve.
The finished result is something that you and your friends and family just won’t be able to get enough of.
