Family tradition is something that truly makes CK Mondavi Wines something special. In the 1940’s, Cesare and Rosa Mondavi began a business that remains family owned today. They offer a consistent wine for a wonderful experience every time.
I received a very generous gift from to Mondavi family. They not only included their 2014 CK Mondavi Chardonnay and their 2013 CK Mondavi Scarlet Five, but they also sent along Valley Lahvosh crackers and Simply Gourmet Cremd’or cheese to pair with their wine.
The Scarlet Five was my favorite of the two wines. Scarlet Five has a very nice perfectly balanced blend of flavors that are quite the palate-pleaser. It is a very unique tasting wine, as it blends five different red wines together. The combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec is phenomenal. I think Scarlet Five would be delicious paired with a thick steak cooked medium-rare.
The Chardonnay is also a very well crafted. The flavor is crisp yet smooth and leaves you wanting more. Lemon and citrus combine beautifully with apple and pear, and you’ll find just the tiniest hint of oak. If you’re looking to pair the Chardonnay with more than just cheese, there are lots of options. I think chicken or seafood, (salmon, yummy!), would be best. You could also pair it with a nice dish of alfredo pasta or tortellini with creamy sauce.
No matter what you decide to pair your CK Mondavi wine with, you’ll find that the family tradition and lasting relationships with vineyards makes a huge difference. CK Mondavi wines are 100% American grown and bottled. There’s nothing better than indulging in something you love, while helping our country grow and thrive, just like Cesare and Rosa envisioned all those years ago.
